West Michigan is a playground for those who crave adventure, and whether that means hiking, kayaking, camping, cycling, road trips up north, or taking the boat out for a day, getting there is always the first step and sometimes half the battle. Borgman Ford in Grand Rapids is proud home to the New Ford Explorer – a Ford Utility that’s more than up to the challenge, from the dunes if Ludington to the put-ins of the Rogue River.

The New Ford Explorer is designed and built for adventure, whether that means tearing through muddy trails, a day at the beach, or a night on the town. The three available engines offer a balance of efficiency and raw power. With five exciting models, there’s a Ford Explorer built to match your own sense of style or thrill. The spacious interior seats seven, and there’s ample room in the back for all of your camping gear, beach chairs, sports equipment, or whatever else you need to bring along on your trek.

Below, you can dive right in and get a closer look at what makes the New Ford Explorer a capable, dependable, safe, and stylish companion for your next trip out of town and into Michigan’s wild side.

The New Ford Explorer Powertrain

Three Engines Tuned For Exploring Michigan

The capable New Ford Explorer comes with your choice of three powerful engines. The first is the standard 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 engine, putting out 290 horsepower, 255 lb./ft. of torque, and capable of towing up to 5,000 pounds. Thrill-seekers can opt for the 3.5L Twin-Turbocharged EcoBoost V6, upping the power to 365 horsepower and 350lb/ft. of torque to climb dunes at the lakeshore or tackle tough Michigan trails.

For those who want the comfort and versatility of a full-size SUV but don’t want to compromise on fuel economy, the New Ford Explorer may also be equipped with the efficient 2.3L Inline 4 EcoBoost Engine. This new, larger EcoBoost offering delivers at least 280 horsepower and at least 310 lb./ft. of torque, a substantial increase over the previous 2.0L EcoBoost. Even with more power, it maintains an EPA-estimated best-in-class highway fuel economy rating.

Transmissions Designed For Roads Less Traveled

The New Ford Explorer comes standard with a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. This transmission includes steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, so you can easily and quickly change gears. Need a little more grip? You can opt for Ford’s Intelligent Four-Wheel Drive to further enhance your powertrain and braking systems. This transmission also includes Ford’s Hill Descent Control, which lets you set and maintain a constant speed while driving down Michigan’s rolling hills.

The New Ford Explorer also features Ford’s Terrain Management System, which lets you adjust the power distribution and handling in different environments, including optimizations for snow, sand, gravel, dirt roads, and more! This level of control is right at your fingertips – simply turn the dial to the desired traction setting on the center console.
