Mazda Motor Corporation will provide electricity generated from renewable sources for two all-star games organized by the Nippon Professional Baseball Association (NPB) in Japan. The first ‘green powered’ 2010 Mazda all-star game will be played at the Fukuoka Yahoo! Japan Dome on July 23. Mazda to Provide Green Electricity for Japanese Pro Baseball’s 2010 All-Star Games
July 29th, 2010Star Mazda Champion Dane Cameron to Drive Prototype
July 23rd, 2010
Dane Cameron, the 2007 Star Mazda Champion, will join Starworks organization this weekend and will co-drive the #7 Flex-Box Riley DP with Bill Lester. Cameron, one of the most talented young American drivers on the racing scene today, arrived at this stage of his career by quickly distinguishing himself on every rung of the open-wheel ladder. Nor is this the first Rolex Series DP race for Dane Cameron. He raced for Ganassi in 2007 in Utah and had a competitive run this year with Beyer Racing at the grueling Rolex 24 at Daytona.
“I am extremely excited to be joining Starworks Motorsport at New Jersey Motorsports Park this weekend,” said Cameron, a native of Sonoma, California. “I have been to NJMP in Formula Atlantic and I had a good run in Rolex GT last season so I expect that past experience to help me get up to speed. The Starworks BMW Riley cars have been extremely fast this season so I am expecting a strong top five run this weekend. I’m looking forward to driving with Bill Lester, I think we will form a strong pairing and we should be able to record a strong finish” added Cameron.
First Drive: The New 2011 Mazda2
July 23rd, 2010
The old Mazda 323 of the late ’80s was adored by many for its simple utility, great fuel mileage and bombproof reliability – in fact, one of my colleagues expressed her ever-lasting love for them, having owned five in her lifetime. But it’s been a long time since we’ve seen a Mazda of that size and sparseness on this side of the Atlantic. But while 323 begat Protegé, which begat 3, each successive generation got larger, heavier, more powerful and complicated.
So Mazda’s recent announcement that its World Car of the Year-winning Mazda2 – the company’s three-, four- or five-door entry-level car in Europe and Asia – would arrive on our shores for sale next year was met with a hearty dose of nostalgia. The company threw itself a celebration by planning a cross-Canada road trip, driving the little car from St. John’s, N.L. to Victoria, B.C. and inviting journalists along to help log the kilometres. The leg MSN Autos Canada was scheduled to join – from Winnipeg, Man. to Regina, Sask. – was called off at the last minute. But, Mazda got the car in our hands once it was home from its sojourn.

Another Way to Kick Petroleum Addiction

A Safer Alternative to Hand-Held Texting
July 15th, 2010
If you multi-task you ought to give this your full attention. As the issue of texting while driving grows in prominence nationally, Ford is expanding its SYNC technology with new features to give drivers safer alternatives to hand-held texting and keep them more focused on the road.
To help make the in-car connection safer, Ford is improving the SYNC text message readback feature and empowering drivers with a “Do Not Disturb” button so they can decide the level of connectivity and communications they want to manage while in the car. Ford is also taking the proactive step to “lock-out” capabilities that are not relevant to the task of driving while the vehicle is in motion.

It’s So Edgy You’ll Think It’s Aftermarket
July 15th, 2010
Remember when the coolest cars on the block were those that were heavily customized with aftermarket mods? It can take a lot of piecemeal work to get that edgy, sporty look, but not if you get the 2011 Ford Edge Sport.
The new Ford Edge Sport is both edgier and sportier than the original version launched in 2009. Customers opting for the popular midsize crossover’s performance version will enjoy a more engaging driving experience, a bolder appearance and industry-first driver connect technology.
Going Fast In More Ways Than One
July 15th, 2010
Customer demand for Ford’s new 2011 Shelby GT500 is growing nearly as fast as the world’s fastest production pony car. More than 3,300 orders have been placed for the new Shelby GT500. To ensure exclusivity, U.S. sales of the 2011 Shelby GT500 will be limited to 5,500 units.
The 2011 Shelby GT500 is powered by a new aluminum-block 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine, which produces 550 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque, a 10 horsepower increase over the 2010 model. The engine is 102 pounds lighter than its predecessor, delivering a better power-to-weight ratio, improved fuel economy, acceleration, handling and steering precision.
Guess What Just Got Faster, Friendlier, and More Personal
July 15th, 2010
Ford made in-car voice activation a reality for millions of drivers with SYNC, first introduced in 2007. Now, Ford engineers – working with voice technology pioneers Nuance Communications – plan to once again raise the bar with the next generation of SYNC, a system that can understand 100 times more commands than the original, thus delivering a more conversational experience between car and driver.

Do You Want to Have ‘Fun, Fun, Fun’?
June 28th, 2010
The Ford Thunderbird is known for its classic design cues and the character of a true American sports car. But it also has 55 years of history to go along with that, and owners across the country are coming together to celebrate Saturday, June 26.
Nearly 300 Ford Thunderbirds and their owners will be heading to Dearborn, Mich., to honor the 55th anniversary of the classic car with a car show at Ford World Headquarters on Saturday, June 26. Drivers will be coming from more than 30 states, with several coming from Canada.
The car show will kick off at noon and run until 4 p.m., with Thunderbirds from every year of production on display. The event is hosted by The Water Wonderland Thunderbird Club, The American Road Thunderbird Club and The Thunderbird Nest.
Making of a classic
The Ford Thunderbird went on sale Oct. 22, 1954 – starting a legend that would grow with each generation of Thunderbird cars. Since then, the Thunderbird has included classic two-seaters, roadsters, convertibles and four-door models, as well as hardtops and sedans – more than
4.2 million of them.

They Don’t Call It ‘Super’ for Nothing
June 28th, 2010
The new 2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty is fitting in so well on the job that it’s being asked to stick around longer. Based on customer requests, Ford is extending its unprecedented F-Series Super Duty fieldwork evaluation program through the end of 2010 to select extreme-duty commercial customers. That means these preproduction Super Duty models will have earned their keep for a full year in some of the toughest work environments around.
Here’s what the severe-duty users are saying about the new Super Duty:
“The 2011 Super Duty is a big key to boosting productivity because we can use it to get to locations not easily accessible and get equipment repaired. We definitely have it loaded down, but the fuel mileage has been excellent – about a 20 to 25 percent improvement in highway situations over the truck it replaced.”
– George White, equipment manager of Reynolds Asphalt
& Construction Co. of Euless, Texas
“This truck has a lot more power and better mileage. The throttle response and acceleration are outstanding. We’re glad to have it during this upcoming busy season.”
– Richard Webb, equipment and construction manager
for TexOp Construction of Roanoke, Texas
“In our business, we need a truck that delivers outstanding fuel economy on the highway and also is capable of tackling the wetlands, swamps and ditches. Our Super Duty pickups have been outstanding meeting those needs.”
– Ray Haering, acquisition specialist for Florida Power & Light Company
“The towing capability of the new Super Duty has been put to the test by both a 9,000-pound long-bed trailer that tows a 26-foot boat that aids in service efforts and an enclosed box trailer. With the power, torque and off-the-line performance, with the revs so low, it’s like there’s nothing back there – it’s that easy.”
– Joe Heatherly, driver for Florida Power & Light Company
